“Lord, we want our marriage to be what you want it to be.” Really?

“Lord, we want our marriage to be what you want it to be.” Really?

Although this statement should be clear and obvious to all of us, there is much more meaning than what might meet the eye at first. Most of us come into marriage under the control of our emotions, with our minds and spirits put out of the way. Feelings are so high that our minds are completely closed off to the possibility of disappointment or failure. The vast majority of us, Christians or not, are not looking for more meaning beyond the mystical ambition of “to live happily ever after.”

To truly trust God by committing to do marriage His way requires understanding that He knows what’s best for us all for the long term. Just as importantly, He knows the best from the beginning and all the way to the end. His plan and His Wisdom are necessary not in some intangible, so-called spiritual way, but also down here “where the tire meets the road.”

If we follow His plan and His lead, God will bring more joy, fulfillment and even fun into our lives than we could ever with our own schemes. Remember, God was the designer of sexual pleasure, not Hollywood. He designed the differences between you and your spouse because He knew how important “Vive la difference” is!

He paints all the sunsets every night and in every place. He enjoys it when you tease each other and He teaches babies to giggle just to make up for all the dirty diapers. He has got a lot of bad press lately. But remember: He doesn’t change. He remains perfect through eternity.

And most of all, Father loves you so much that He sent His Son Jesus the Christ to die for you.  Trust! God has a better plan.
